About Jun

A sought-after teacher and violinist, Jun Zhu hails from Guilin, China, where he began his musical studies at age 4. He holds a bachelor’s degree from the Sacramento State School of Music and a master’s degree from Boston Conservatory of Music, where he studied with Lynn Chang.

An accomplished performer, Jun was the winner of the Millenial Chamber Music Competition at Boston Conservatory, Walton Chamber Music Competition at Sacramento State, as well as the Concerto Competition of the American River College Orchestra. He also has ample experience as an orchestral musician, having performed actively in various leading positions with the Boston Conservatory Symphony Orchestra, Boston Civic Orchestra, and American River College, among others. Having served as concertmaster of the Folsom Lake College Symphony Orchestra from 2009 to 2011, Jun currently plays in the first violin section of the Folsom Lake Symphony Orchestra.

Throughout his career, Jun has shared the stage with many prominent musicians including Bruce Hangen, music director of Orchestra of Indiana Hill; Ken-David Masur, Assoiate Conductor of Boston Symphony Orchestra; Brannon Cho, first prize winner of the Casado International Cello Competition. Among his many distinctions and awards, he was the recipient of the Camerata Capistrano Music, Boston Conservatory, Pacific Conservatory of Music Excellence in Performance  and Sacramento State School of Music Merit Scholarships. In addition, he was invited to play for the “Recording of Interpretation” lecture of Benjamin Zander, music director of the Boston Philharmonic, at Robb Hall in the historical Boston Public Library.

Jun has many years of experience as a teacher for all levels, from beginner to advanced. The purpose of his teaching is to build and cultivate a healthy relationship between the students, music, and their instruments, by adapting to the constantly evolving demands of recitals, exams, and contests. Jun constantly motivates and encourages his students to achieve the next level, in order to enjoy the feeling of musical fulfillment. Jun design s a personal approach to each student according to their needs for practice. Many of his students have achieved ABRSM (Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music) exams grades one to eight, and have also performed and shared their music in recitals at various venues in the Sacramento area. It is a joy for Jun to see his students master the violin, while contributing their craft to their community.

In addition to his passion for teaching, Jun is also a frequent chamber and solo recitalist in the Sacramento area. Please see the upcoming events page for future performances.
